O'Neil tried out for the third season of Canadian Idol in the early year of 2005, while at high school. She was able to advance into the top 100 because of the judges' excitement in her performances. O'Neil was given high praise by the judges but suffered major losses during the top 10 weeks and Top 9 of the Finals as she fell into the bottom 3 and bottom 2 in both cases.
